Godwin Obaseki wins the Edo state election




Godwin Obaseki of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Edo gubernatorial election which was held September 19. He won the vote polling 307,955 against All Progressive Congress, Pastor Ize-Iyamu who polled 223,619 votes. He also won 13 LGAs of 18 LGAs.

Johnson Alalibo, the Chief returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result of the election of the 18 local government statement:

"Godwin Obaseki of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number votes, is hereby declared the winner".

Governor Obaseki won his first term as an APC candidate and Mr Ize-Iyamu was the candidate for PDP.
