INEC reacts as PDP rejects returning officer for Ondo Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will not share in appointing collation and returning officers with individuals, groups and political parties. In an interview with NAN in Abuja, Mr Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commission and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee said this while responding to some worry over an alleged attempt to manipulate the results of the poll. He stated that INEC has a clear method of appointing collation and returning officers.

On Thursday, Chairman of PDP Ondo State Gubernatorial National Campaign Council, Seyi Makinde, who is also the Governor of Oyo State, had raised the alarm in Akure. While addressing journalist he explained his distrust in the neutrality of INEC in conducting the polls. But Okoye Stated that:
“The commission has the sole responsibility of appointing collation officers for the various levels of collation. At the end of the election on Saturday, there’ll be returning officer for the governorship election.
“The collation at the state level will be beamed live in the major networks, and the agents, and the agents of the political parties will be present”.
