Ministry of science & technology settles N2million debt with vehicles worth 17million

The Ministry of Science and technology has allegedly given out two vehicles worth 17 million naira, to payoff  debt of 2million naira they owed contractors. This was revealed by the Senate Committee on Public Account after Auditor-General of the Federation, Anthony Ayine in a report submitted to the Senate probed the ministry over the unexplained absence of two vehicles: M50-10FG and MGO-12FG.

The Auditor-general disclosed this in the verification of nonrecurrent assets of the ministry. The vehicles were not seen and their disappearance was not accounted for.

After intense interrogation by the senate committee, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Edet Akpan claimed the vehicles were confiscated in response to the debt owed to the contractors.

The chairman of the senate committee, Senator Matthew Urhoghide however disregarded Akpan’s justification and stated that there is no evidence that the missing vehicles were seized or given to the contractor by court order.
