Boat accident: 18 perish in Bauchi state


 Horrific boat accident has occurred at Zango Majiya village in ltas-Gdau Local Government Area of Bauchi State when boat conveying 23 persons capsized killing 18 of them on board.

This incidence occurred on Thursday 13th November when one Nuhu Kalia of Zango Majiya village ferried 23 persons heading to their farms. The boat was overcrowded which forced it capsize.

Confirming this pathetic incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil disclosed that 18 persons perished while 5 were rescued. Wakil alleged that upon receiving the news of the traumatic incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Itas Gidar station and a team of policemen rushed to the scene of the mishap where corpses were recovered from the river and taken to the General Hospital Itas for postmortem examinations.

The police released the identity of the victims of the mishap which sadly comprised majorly of little girls: Abdulraham Shehu male 20 yrs, Suwaiba Yusuf female 12yrs, Saude Abdulkarim female 14yrs, Fatima Maigan female 10yrs, Zuwaira Maigan female 10yrs, Ham Maigan female 9yrs, Hussaina Maigan female 8yrs,.

Others are:Ummani Abdulkarim female 15yrs, Halima Saminu female 15yrs of Gidan Ganji village; Najaatu Hamza female 15yrs, Nura Abdullahi male 25yrs, Yahuza Abdullahi female 12yrs, Hafsa Abdullahi female 11yrs, of Majiya village, ; Sadiya Hashimu female 10yrs, Khadija Alhassan female 15yrs, of Gwarai village; Amina Idris female 15yrs, Kaltime Hudu female 14yrs, Furaira Malam Magayi female 14yrs, of Zangon Majiya village who were all drowned in the river.

However, the driver of the boat Aisha Adamu female 16yrs and Umaru Adamu male 30yrs were rescued unconscious.

DSP Wakil disclosed that the corpses have been deposited at the General Hospital Itas for postmortem examination.
