Court ignores call to stop Coronation of new Emir of Zazzau

A high Court sitting in Dogarawa, Zaria in Kaduna State today refused the application seeking to stop the coronation of Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as new emir of Zazzau. The suit filled by Alhaji Bashir Aminu (IyanZazzau) challenging the coronation of new emir that is scheduled to take place on Nov. 9. According to NAN’s report, Aminu on 16th of October filled an interlocutory application restraining Gov. Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State from installing, crowning, recognizing and dealing with any person whatsoever as the emir of Zazzau.

Delivering a ruling, Justice Kabir Dabo said, “Due to the important roles played by traditional rulers in the society and likelihood of a breakdown of peace, chieftaincy matters must be given accelerated hearing by courts in line with the reasoning of Supreme Court, injunctions like this should be discouraged…The role issue for determination is whether at this stage it will be in the interest of justice to grant this application. The answer is no. The reliefs prayed for in the motion dated Oct. 10 are refused.” He said.
