Destruction of bottles of beer is hypocritical and provocative – HURIWA

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) on Monday decries the destruction of 19 million bottles of beer and intoxicants worth 200 million by the Kano State Government on religious ground as insane. The National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko and National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf condemn the action of State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s approval for the item’s destruction unconstitutional nd violation of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which forbids the recognition of a particular religion as State religion and section 42 of the Constitution. HURIWA added that President Buhari has shown his partiality for Islam and ethnicity that he has rubbished section 14 (3) f 1999 Constitution in the implementation of the principle of Federal Character in his appointments. The body alleges that the impunity of the action of t Gov. is a sign of conspiracy to Islamize Nigeria. “We condemn Ganduje’s approval fo he destruction of alcohol beverages as despicable, provocative, vexatious, and primitive.”

The body alleges that Kano, like Nigeria, is a multi-religious place, therefore, imposing one religion over all is cruel and unacceptable. The body queries strongly the rational in destroying what contributes in no small measure to the Federation Account from where Kano State derives its monthly allocations. This is shameful and is hypocrisy of the highest order!
