Payment of pension to pensioners

 

Nigeria Power sector pensioners appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari for intervention to pay up N35 billion in arrears owed to pensioners.

Benjamin Amako, President of Electricity Sector Retire Welfare Association states that Buhari had ordered the payment of pension over 5 years old but government officials fails to comply. Relevant authorities who are responsible for the payment are working contrarily. Amako states that the arrears has always been part of nation's budget under the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company budget (NELMOCO) transferred to the Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD).

The union has appealed to Buhari, Minister of Finance, Senate Committee on power, Accountant General of the federation and others to save members lives. Amako has taken note and demands immediate action knowing fully well the economic challenges of the country has greatly affected pensioners.
