Police Command rescues 14 captives in Abuja


Fourteen people who were kidnapped and held in captivity were rescued by the Police Command of Federal Capital Territory and the Department of State Services. The victims were kidnapped at the Gauraka area of Niger State and freed during a joint operation at Byhazin-Bwari axis in Abuja.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mariam Yusuf disclosed in a statement that the mission was led by the Command's Anti-Kidnapping squad.

The kidnappers hideouts was unveiled as they combed through the forest. Afterwards, there was a violent gun duel and 2 kidnappers were arrested while the rest escaped with bullets wounds.

Ak-47 magazines and Cooking utensils were found in their hideouts. The victims held in captivity were taking to the hospital to receive medical care as they appeared very weak.

"Residents in the Federal Capital Territory were assured protection of their lives and properties through partnership with security agencies and other stakeholders," the Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma stated.
