Federal Government suspends Twitter Nigeria

 


Twitter operations in Nigeria has been suspended by the Federal Government. Claimed the platform limits Nigeria's corporate existence. 

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, June 4.

These suspension was announced after Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari's genocidal tweet, regarding civil war in accordance to the request from Nigerians to delete President Buhari account.

Nigerians had earlier called for the suspension of Buhari's account for saying, 'individuals or groups who wants to destroy his government would be treated in a language they understand.

 The very media they plan to ban was also used as a medium to broadcast their announcement.

"The Federal Government also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria."
