Man beats his wife to death over N2000


Vigilantes in Benin City apprehended Christopher and handed him over to the police. He was alleged to have beaten his wife, Isoken to death over N2000.

The incident was confirmed by the Edo state Police Command spokeperson, Beilo Kontongs

The entire incident began on Saturday night at No 1 Agbontaen street behind Ebvareke Secondary school in Uselu.

The events of that night was disclosed by Christopher eldest child, Augustine Christopher, aged 13. Augustine stated his father had called his mother on Saturday morning and demanded from her N2000 but from what he noticed his mother didn't give his father a positive response.

However, his father works with a waste manager in Benin and would often come home drunk. He's a perpetual smoker and drunkard.

According to Augustine, that particular night, his father had come around 9pm and started beating his mother accusing her of always embarrassing him when he ask her for money.

He had tried to reach his mother with paracetamol and a glass of water after the physical abuse but his father, Christopher tossed it aside and locked up his mother, Augustine and his siblings in a room.

Isoken, didn't fight back against him, she only went and poured water on her body and laid down. However, Christopher didn't let her rest and went to where Isoken laid down and continued beating her till there was no sign of life in her.

It was at the point that the neighborhood gathered and rushed her to two different hospitals whereby she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A neighbour, Mrs Florence Obahiagbon supported Augustine statement narrating residents in the area were the ones that called vigilante that caught Christopher while trying to escape.

The police command declared investigations was still ongoing.
