NYSC can't be eradicated - Olufunmayo Akin-Moses

South-West Director of National Youth Service Corps, Olufunmayo Akin-Moses described NYSC as a strategy to promote youth employment and develop manpower.

According to her, NYSC is an agency of peace and progress in the country and the decision to eliminate the youth scheme does more harm than good.

A ceremony was held at the Corps of the permanent orientation in Ede, Osun state on Saturday. It was in the ceremony that Olufunmayo Akin-Moses made her comments. 

She made reference to the fact that the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has done everything within his power to prevent NYSC from being scrapped off as demanded by Nigerians that claimed the scheme has failed to actualise it's purpose.

She addressed corp members and stated as a reminder that NYSC stands for peace, unity and progress and the anniversary was supposed to be held on 22nd May, but had to be postponed due to the death of Late Chief of Staff, Ahmed Gulak and other police officer who died in an air crash on May 21.

The corps members were encourage to service with humility and render selfless service, striving to do their best in every circumstances that they find themselves.

In conclusion, NYSC was established on May 22, 1973 by the regime of General Yakubu Gowon, as a way to unite the country after the civil war ended on January 15, 1970.
