NYSC corps members, not mobilise for war

National Youth Service Corps illuminated that the scheme is not mobilsing Corps members for war as rumored on social media.

According to reports, the Director General of the scheme, Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Thursday stated Corps members are part of the National Defense Policy of Nigeria and a referral could be made to engage them in a war, as emergency standby soldiers as their military training will enable them fit in easily.

NYSC reaffirms the news on Channels Television alongside reacting to the move by National Assembly to scrap the scheme.

NYSC Deputy Director ( publications), Emeka Mgbemena standing in for the Director (Press and Public relations), Adenike Adeyemi, issued a statement on Friday.

Statement declared, the NYSC DG's utterance was misunderstood and doesn't imply what is stated on social Media.

DG had said, "in accordance with the National Defense Policy, corps members are emergency soldiers that are set apart to be ready at all times for any emergencies when the need arises.

"Corps members are admonished to remain focused and to Nigerians, let the spirit of NYSC be alive in you"

DG never stated they were mobilised for war but only made a comment according to the National Defense Policy and that the scheme would always ensure the rights and interests of the corps members were protected.
