Fayose reacts to the rejection of Lauretta Onochie's as INEC chairman


The appointment of Lauretta Onochie as National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has been rejected the second time by the senate.

The news of her rejection was announced on Monday, reports followed thereafter from the Senate committee led by Senator Kabir Gaya, he stated according to the Constitution in Section 14 (1) 3, as long as someone have been nominated from her zone, another peron from that same zone can't be nominated.

In following the law, accepting the appointment of Onochie would breached the Federal character principles. Reacting towards Onochie's rejection, the former Governor of Ekiti state, Peter Ayodele Fayose tweeted, "On rejection of Lauretta Onochie's nomination as INEC's Commissioner, i commend the Senate to listen to Nigerians".

Further stated, "This portends great hope for democracy & I hope the NASS can go further by subjecting itself more to what represents the interest of Nigerians. Congratulations Nigerians!".
