Tokyo Paralympics starts and UNHCR will bear Afghanistan flag

 

Tokyo Paralympics is set to kick off on Tuesday. Different athletes from different nation's will be participating in the event with the exception of Afghanistan's athletes due to the ongoing crisis in Kabul, Afghanistan. International flights have been suspended in Afghanistan.

Irrespective of their absence, the Afghanistan flag will be hosted up. This was announced on Monday by the International Committee President, Andrew Parsons. According to Parsons, although they are not physically present but will be in the spirit.

Moreover, since their flag will be hosted, there will be need to find a representative to act as a bearer of the flag.  The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was appointed as the bearer of  the Afghanistan flag.
